TNO

TNO, the Netherlands Organization of Applied Scientific Research has, within the area of Building and Construction research, a dedicated group on conservation and restoration of built cultural heritage. The group is involved in Nanomatch work packages 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7.

TNO was leader of WP1. In this WP, substrates for testing the Nanomatch consolidants as well as test procedures were defined for different types, viz. natural stone, mortar and wall paintings, glass and wood. In addition, relevant commercially available product currently on the market were selected for comparison. Furthermore, compatibility and performance criteria as well as climate change parameters, were selected and priorized.

In one of the tasks of WP2, TNO contributed to the selection of alkoxide and biocide for wood conservation. In WP3 and 4, TNO is involved in the laboratory and field evaluation of developed products. SEM investigations were performed on preliminary test specimens for wood. A novel method was developed for the production of artificial analogues of weathered natural stone. In WP6, TNO will be responsible for the task of drafting guidelines.
